Most visitors walk down Long Street, take a photo of Neptune and leave. On this tour you’ll understand what you are looking at: why the houses are so narrow and so tall, who paid for the gilded façades, and why much of what looks medieval was rebuilt after 1945.

Upland Gate & the Royal Route
We start where Polish kings entered the city. Along Long Street you’ll learn to read the façades — and spot which details survived the war and which were recreated from pre-war photographs.

Long Market & Artus Court
The city’s former marketplace and meeting room of its merchant elite. Neptune’s Fountain, the Town Hall and the story of how Gdańsk grew rich on Baltic grain trade.

The riverside & the Crane
Through the Green Gate to the Motława. The medieval port crane explains Gdańsk better than any museum label: this was a working harbour city first.

Mariacka Street & St Mary’s
The most photographed street in Gdańsk, its terraces and gargoyles, then the vast brick interior of St Mary’s and its astronomical clock.

What is the difference between Gdansk Old Town and Main Town?
Most visitors say “Old Town”, but the famous historic streets — Long Street, Long Market, Mariacka — are technically the Main Town (Główne Miasto). The Old Town (Stare Miasto) is the neighbouring district to the north. This tour covers the Main Town and, time permitting, parts of the Old Town.
Is three hours enough?
Three hours is enough to see and understand the historic centre properly. If you want to go inside St Mary’s or a museum, or add the Solidarity sites, add an hour or two.
Is the tour suitable for children or older travellers?
Yes. The route is flat and we can slow down, add breaks and adapt the stories to the group.
