Why “Danziger”
A name with a history
“Danzig” is the German name of Gdańsk, used for centuries alongside the Polish one, and a “Danziger” was someone from the city. Between the wars it was the Free City of Danzig — a place of several languages, many loyalties and one shared harbour.
The name is a reminder that Gdańsk’s story is richer than any single chapter: Hanseatic merchants, Polish kings, Flemish and Dutch architects, the first day of the Second World War, and the shipyard where Solidarity was born. Our tours try to tell all of it — carefully, and from the inside.
